The Mystery Of Bhakti- Yoga

man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru
mam evaisyasi satya te pratijane priyo ‘si me

The direction of the Lord is:
·one should be God-minded,a devotee of the Lord, a worshiper of the Lord, and must offer all obeisances unto Lord Krsna.
·By so doing, the devotee will undoubtedly go back to Godhead, back to home.
·Indirectly it is said that:
Everyone acts as a part and parcel of the complete body of the Lord.

The complete social construction is the body of the Lord, and all the parts of the body, namely the brahmanas, the ksatriyas, the vaisyas and the sudras, are meant to serve the Lord’s whole body conjointly.

Universal consciousness:
·Universal consciousness is factually achieved by coordinated service of all concerned to the Supreme personality of Godhead, and that alone can insure total perfection.

·Even the great man, cannot give any relief to the restless society of the material world because they do not know the secret of success as mentioned in this verse of the Bhagavatam, namely that one must know the mystery of bhakti-yoga.

Chant: Hare Krsna.
Because we are part and parcel of The Supreme Lord, Sri Krsna, we become satisfied when we satisfy Krsna. This is the secret.

The chanting mantra:
Hare krsna hare krsna, krsna krsna hare hare,
Hare rama hare rama, rama rama hare hare.

The chanting process:
Repeat the mantra silently and listen carefully, if possible fix your mind at the same time on the lotus feet of The Lord.
In the meantime, by His mercy, revealed The Lotus feet of Lord Krsna in your heart and mind. This is the secret to become happy, Hare Krsna.

Edit: visvarupadasa

The forgotten secret to become happy.

This secret we are missing.
We are thinking we shall be happy by trying to satisfy our senses directly. Krsna consciousness means, try to satisfy the senses of Krsna. Automatically your senses will be satisfied.
This is the secret of Krsna consciousness.

The glories of Lord Sri Krsna’s pure devotees.

The Lord always resides in the heart of His pure devotees, and so they have the potency to purify the places of pilgrimage, which become heavily laden with the sins deposited there by all the pilgrims.

These are some of the glories of the Lord’s pure, surrendered devotees.
Lord Krsna says In the Bhagavad-gita (18.58), mac-cittah sarva-durgani mat-prasadat tarisyasi: “If you become conscious of Me, you will pass over all the obstacles of conditioned life by My grace.”

Therefore fruitive activity, the search for empirical knowledge, and mystic yoga all culminate in surrender to the Supreme Lord.

As Lord Krsna says in the Gita (18.66):
sarva-dharman parityajya — mam ekam saranam vraja
aham tvam sarva-papebhyo — moksayisyami ma sucah

Abandon all varieties of religion and surrender unto Me. I will deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear.

The Highest Use of Intelligence

When a person fixes his mind on the eternal, exquisite form of Syamasundara, beautiful Lord Sri Krsna, all distress and anguish are vanquished.
In the initial stages, the attempt to fix the mind on Krsna may be unsuccessful, but with regulated practice (abhyasa-yoga) it becomes possible.
Abhyasa-yoga means sincere engagement in the ninefold process of bhakti, beginning with hearing and chanting the holy name, pastimes, and so on, of Lord Krsna.
Proper execution of abhyasa-yoga culminates in the awakening of divine consciousness,or superconsciousness.
This is true success.
Don’t waste your valuable time only your karma will go with you.

Everything is spiritual.

Everything Is Spiritual*

Dr. Singh. Is material consciousness the absence of Krsna consciousness?
Srila Prabhupada. Yes.
Dr. Singh. And when there is Krsna consciousness, where is material nature?
Srila Prabhupada. If you continue in Krsna consciousness, you will see that nothing is material. When you offer a flower to Krsna, it is not material. Krsna will not accept anything material. And this does not mean that the flower is material on the bush, and then it becomes spiritual when you offer it to Krsna. No.
The flower is “material” only as long as you think “that it is made for your enjoyment”. But as soon as you see that it is for Krsna’s enjoyment, you see it as it really is — spiritual.

The human form of life

April 3rd, 2011

The necessities for ocean travel are:
· human body is the ship to take us across the ocean of nescience
· the spiritual master is the best navigator
· the scriptures are the rudder
· the Lord’s mercy is the perfect wind

Our own worst enemy:
· If we do not take advantage of this excellent arrangement and cross over the material ocean of nescience, then we are our own worst enemy

Lord Krsna incarnates as the spiritual master
· We must always fix our attention on the favorable wind of the Lord’s mercy, which incarnates as the spiritual master
· Therefore one must approach a spiritual master, take shelter of his lotus feet, and learn from him the science of devotional service.
· This is what the Upanisads enjoin — tad-vijnanartham sa gurum evabhigacchet.

Represent the Absolute Truth
· The saintly, pure devotees, the guru, and the scriptures all represent the same Absolute Truth.
· The pure devotees are in fact all gurus because they never swerve from the spiritual principles enunciated in the scriptures: they see only through the lens of the scriptures.
· Spiritual practices are impossible to execute without the authority of these three ruling principles: The saintly devotees, the guru, and the scriptures.
· One must vehemently denounce the Western mentality of defying spiritual tradition and the scriptures.
· Such a mentality reveres mundane philosophies based on speculation and concocted logic, considering these practices signs of superior intelligence.
· The only weapon the proponents of such philosophies have is mundane argument, but often they exhibit a lack of mastery even of this art.
· Recent trends show that without probing deeply into a subject, these Westerners uselessly debate direct and indirect meanings ad infinitum.
· Each of these sophists surely realizes that he must one day accept defeat in the hands of a greater sophist, for there is always someone more intelligent.

Therefore the process of debate leads nowhere.
There is a wide gulf between superficial dabbling in philosophy to impress people with a few stock phrases, and a sincere search for knowledge of the Absolute.

The Absolute Truth, can be understood only through the science of devotion, bhakya mam abhi-janaty. As Srila Rupa Gosvami writes in his Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, quoting from the Mahabharata:

acintyah khalu ye bhava – na tams tarkena yojayet
prakrtibhyah param yac ca – tad acintyasya laksanam

· Anything transcendental to material nature is inconceivable and thus cannot be grasped through mundane arguments.
· Therefore one should not try to understand transcendental subjects in this way.
· Without the mercy of the Supreme Lord, such esoteric subjects are incomprehensible, even if one spends many years researching them.

Hare Krsna

The fall down of the spiritual soul.

When one understands the operator, his problems of life are solved.
As Krsna says in Bhagavad-Gita 7.19:

bahunam janmanam ante — jnanavan mam prapadyate
vasudevam sarvam iti — sa mahatma sudurlabha

“After many births and deaths, he who is actually in knowledge surrenders unto Me, knowing Me to be the cause of all causes and all that is. Such a great soul is very rare.” A sane man, therefore, surrenders to the Supreme Personality of Godhead and thus gets out of the clutches of the illusory energy, maya.

When the soul becomes captivated for enjoying the material world instead of rendering service to Krsna, that is the beginning of his falldown. When the living being thinks himself to be the enjoyer, that is called false ego.
His constitutional position is to serve Krsna.
So this false egotism degrades him to pollute the intelligence and the mind. So mind and intelligence are already there in the soul, but in the conditional stage the same mind and intelligence become polluted as false egotism or enjoyer. The bhakti process is to purify everything.

The mind is not the soul but is a venue for expressing the soul’s desire. So if the mind is purified, then things go on nicely in its original position. If he does not go on rightly he falls down in conditional life.
The whole yogic system is to convert the mind from matter to spirit. You can utilize the mind in both ways.
When the mind is spiritually trained up it is the best friend of the soul, and when the mind is materially polluted, it is the worst enemy.
The B.Gita: Bg. 6.6

bandhur atmatmanas tasya yenatmaivatmana jitah
anatmanas tu satrutve vartetatmaiva satruvat

For those who are grossly materialistic persons, for them the yogic system is recommended, otherwise if the mind is directly engaged at the lotus feet of Krsna, the senses automatically become engaged in Krsna’s service; and that is the liberated stage.

Chanting of the Hare Krsna mantra is the direct process for curing the mind of all materialistic contamination. Take to this process and be happy.
Be never alone.

Pure Meditation

September 25th, 2010

By pure meditation, looking at Lord Sri Krsna , Bhismadeva at once was freed from all material inauspiciousness and was relieved of all bodily pains caused by the arrow wounds. Thus all the external activities of his senses at once stopped, and he prayed transcendentally to the controller of all living beings while quitting his material body.

Bron. ISKCON Books

The material body is a gift of the material energy, technically called illusion. Identification with the material body is due to forgetfulness of our eternal relationship with the Lord.
For a pure devotee of the Lord like Bhismadeva, this illusion was at once removed as soon as the Lord arrived. Lord Krsna is like the sun, and the illusory, external material energy is like darkness.
In the presence of the sun there is no possibility that darkness can stand. Therefore, just on the arrival of Lord Krsna , all material contamination was completely removed, and Bhismadeva was thus able to be transcendentally situated by stopping the activities of the impure senses in collaboration with matter.
The soul is originally pure and so also the senses. By material contamination the senses assume the role of imperfection and impurity. By revival of contact with the Supreme Pure, Lord Krsna , the senses again become freed from material contaminations.
Bhismadeva attained all these transcendental conditions prior to his leaving the material body because of presence of the Lord.
The Lord is the controller and benefactor of all living beings.
That is the verdict of all Vedas. He is the supreme eternity and living entity amongst all the eternal living beings.

Bron. ISKCON Books

This process of understanding one’s position as a spirit soul and then engaging oneself in devotional service is therefore the best.
The entire Vedic program is based on this principle, and one can understand it as recommended in the Vedas:

yasya deve para bhaktir – yatha deve tatha gurau
tasyaite kathita hy artha” – prakasante mahatmana”

“Unto those great souls who have implicit faith in both the Lord and the spiritual master, all the imports of Vedic knowledge are automatically revealed.” (Svetasvatara Upanisad 6.23) One must accept the pure devotee, the representative of God, as one’s guru and then offer him all the respects one would offer the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This is the secret of success.

The Cause of anxiety

In the Bhagavatam, the cause of anxiety over the result of an activity is explained as being one’s functioning in the conception of duality, that is, without knowledge of the Absolute Truth. Krsna is the Supreme Absolute Truth, the Personality of Godhead.
In Krsna consciousness, there is no duality. All that exists is a product of Krsna’s energy, and Krsna is all good. Therefore, activities in Krsna consciousness are on the absolute plane; they are transcendental and have no material effect. One is, therefore, filled with peace in Krsna consciousness. One who is, however, entangled in profit calculation for sense gratification cannot have that peace.
This is the secret of Krsna consciousness–realization that there is no existence besides Krsna is the platform of peace and fearlessness.

Krsna famous as bhakta-vatsala

January 14th, 2010

Because I am the servitor of My devotees, My lotus feet have become so sacred that they immediately wipe out all sin, and I have acquired such a disposition that the goddess of fortune does not leave Me, even though I have no attachment for her and others praise her beauty and observe sacred vows to secure from her even a slight favor.

The relationship between the Lord and His devotee is transcendentally beautiful. As the devotee thinks that it is due to being a devotee of the Lord that he is elevated in all good qualities, so the Lord also thinks that it is because of His devotion to the servitor that all His transcendental glories have increased. In other words, as the devotee is always anxious to render service to the Lord, so the Lord is ever anxious to render service to the devotee.
The Lord admits herein that although He certainly has the quality that anyone who receives a slight particle of the dust of His lotus feet becomes at once a great personality, this greatness is due to His affection for His devotee. It is because of this affection that the goddess of fortune does not leave Him and that not only one but many thousands of goddesses of fortune engage in His service.
In the material world, simply to get a little favor from the goddess of fortune, people observe many rigid regulations of austerity and penance. The Lord cannot tolerate any inconvenience on the part of the devotee. He is therefore famous as bhakta-vatsala.

Real Spiritual Life

January 12th, 2010

Return To Real Life:
Srila Prabhupada: We are simply attempting to bring people to the real understanding.
Krsna says, mamaivamso jiva-bhutah: (bg.15.7) all living entities are part and parcel of Me. He says, sarva-yonisu kaunteya (Bg.14.40).. aham bija-pradah: “Of all forms of life, I am the seed-giving father.”
In other words, the natural position is that every living entity – animals, plants, and human beings, including Indians, Americans, -so everyone is part and parcel of Krsna.

So our Krsna consciousness movement is not a process of trying to convince people of some speculative idea. This movement is actually bringing people to their real position — that they’re all part and parcel of Krsna. It is not artificial proselytizing: “You are Christian; now become a Hindu.” It is not like that. This movement is actually bringing people back to their natural position — part and parcel of God, Lord Sri Krsna.
The effects of artificial proselytizing will not stand. But when one comes to the real understanding of his position, then that will continue. This Krsna consciousness movement is that real understanding — bringing everyone back to his original position.
At the present moment everyone is in a diseased condition: people are thinking they are something other than servants of Krsna. Now this movement is trying to bring everyone to the position of recognizing that they are eternal servants of Krsna.

This movement is not some kind of rubber-stamp proselytizing — “You were Christian; now you are Hindu.” After all, if one does not know what his position is, what benefit will he derive by simply being stamped” Hindu”?
He’ll still be in ignorance of his real, spiritual identity.
If you keep someone on the ignorant platform, then what is the benefit of making a Christian or a into a Hindu? No, artificially changing someone into a Hindu will not help.
One must know the philosophy of life. One must know what God is. One must learn how to love God. That is real life.

The atma and Paramatma

January 8th, 2010

hari sarvesu bhutesu — bhagavan aste isvara
iti bhutani manasa — kamais tai sadhu manayet

One should always remember the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His localized representation as the Paramatma, who is situated in the core of every living entity’s heart. Thus one should offer respect to every living entity according to that living entity’s position or manifestation.

Hari sarvesu bhutesu. This statement is sometimes misunderstood by unscrupulous persons who wrongly conclude that because Hari, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is situated in every living entity, every living entity is therefore Hari. Such persons do not distinguish between the atma and the Paramatma, who are situated in every body. The atma is the living entity, and the Paramatma is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The individual living entity, however, is different from the Paramamatma, the Supreme Lord.
Therefore hari sarvesu bhutesu means that Hari is situated as Paramatma, not as atma, although atma is a part of Paramatma.

Offering respect to every living entity means offering respect to the Paramatma situated in every living entity. One should not misunderstand every living entity to be the Paramatma.
Sometimes unscrupulous persons designate a living entity as daridra-narayana, svami-Narayana, this Narayana or that Narayana.
One should clearly understand that although Narayana is situated in the core of the heart of every living entity, the living entity never becomes Narayana.

Krsna The Supreme Godhead

December 24th, 2009

Krsna who is known as Govinda is the Supreme Godhead. He has an eternal blissful spiritual body. He is the origin of all. He has no other origin and He is the prime cause of all causes.

Krsna is the exalted Supreme entity having His eternal name, eternal form, eternal attribution and eternal pastimes. The very name “Krsna” implies His love-attracting designation, expressing by His eternal nomenclature the acme of entity. His eternal beautiful heavenly blue-tinged body glowing with the intensity of ever-existing knowledge has a flute in both His hands. As His inconceivable spiritual energy is all-extending, still He maintains His all-charming medium size by His qualifying spiritual instrumentals. His all-accommodating supreme subjectivity is nicely manifested in His eternal form.

The concentrated all-time presence, uncovered knowledge and inebriating felicity have their beauty in Him. The mundane manifestive portion of His own Self is known as all-pervading Paramatma,(Superior Lord) or Visnu (All-fostering). Hence it is evident that Krsna is sole Supreme Godhead. His unrivaled or unique spiritual body of superexcellent charm is eternally unveiled with innumerable spiritual instrumentals (senses) and unreckonable attributes keeping their signifying location properly, adjusting at the same time by His inconceivable conciliative powers. This beautiful spiritual figure is identical with Krsna and the spiritual entity of Krsna is identical with His own figure.
The very intensely blended entity of eternal presence of felicitous cognition is the charming targeted holding or transcendental icon. It follows that the conception of the indistinguishable formless magnitude (Brahman) which is an indolent, lax, presentment of cognitive bliss, is merely a penumbra of intensely blended glow of the three concomitants, viz., the blissful, the substantive and the cognitive. This transcendental manifestive icon Krsna in His original face is primordial background of magnitudinal infinite Brahman and of the all-pervasive oversoul. Krsna as truly visioned in His variegated pastimes, such as owner of transcendental cows, chief of cowherds, consort of milk-maids, ruler of the terrestrial abode Gokula and object of worship by transcendental residents of Goloka beauties, is Govinda.

He is the root cause of all causes who are the predominating and predominated agents of the universe. The glance of His projected fractional portion in the sacred originating water viz., the personal oversoul or Paramatma, gives rise to a secondary potency–nature who creates this mundane universe. This oversoul’s intermediate energy brings forth the individual souls analogously to the emanated rays of the sun.

Krsna in your heart

December 18th, 2009

Krishna is always with you provided you are sincere in His service
and faithful to your Spiritual Master, that is the secret success.

In the tenth chapter of Bhagavad-Gita the Lord Himself supplies the light and intelligence from within the heart of a devotee who is constantly engaged in His transcendental loving service.
So, the secret of success is that one should be eager to serve the Spiritual Master and Krsna simultaneously with the same regard and things will become automatically revealed in the heart of the devotee.

The basic principle of our actions should be that they are all meant for pleasing Krsna. If we act always in this consciousness automatically everyone will be attracted to devotional service, and this is the secret of our preaching work. If one simply practice the regulative principles which is given, no meat eating no gambling, no elicitsex and no intoxication, you will remain pure. Factually this is our only strength.

The secret of preaching work is that one must keep himself fit in spiritual strength by maintaining always the highest standard of purity in Krsna consciousness. Our process is simple and practically experimented everywhere. Simply by vibrating the Hare Krsna Mahamantra sixteen rounds daily one advances to the stage of sadacara or good habits and when he is pure in consciousness by devotional service, he advances to the stage of ecstatic love of Krsna.

We should always pray to Lord Caitanya simply to be engaged in His confidential service by chanting Hare Krsna mantra always. That will purify us and give the strength needed to infuse others with Krsna consciousness.

The Greatness of Bhakti Yoga

December 15th, 2009

The Greatest science and philosophy of Bhakti Yoga

bhoktaram yajna-tapasam — sarva-loka-mahesvaram
suhrdah sarva-bhutanam — jnatva mam santim rcchati

The sages, knowing Me as the ultimate purpose of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all planets and demigods and the benefactor and well-wisher of all living entities, attain peace from the pangs of material miseries.
The conditioned souls within the clutches of illusory energy are all anxious to attain peace in the material world. But they do not know the formula for peace, which is explained in this part of the Bhagavad-Gita. The greatest peace formula is simply this: Lord Krsna is the beneficiary in all human activities. Men should offer everything to the anscendental service of the Lord because He is the proprietor of all planets and the Devata’s, thereon. No one is greater than Krsna.

He is greater than the greatest of the demigods, Lord Siva and Lord Brahma. In the Vedas (Svetasvatara Upanisad 6.7) the Supreme Lord is described as tam Isvaram parama mahesvarah. Under the spell of illusion, living entities are trying to be lords of all they survey, but actually they are dominated by the material energy of the Lord.
The Lord is the master of material nature, and the conditioned souls are under the stringent rules of material nature. Unless one understands these bare facts, it is not possible to achieve peace in the world either individually or collectively. This is the sense of Krsna consciousness: Lord Krsna is the supreme predominator, and all living entities, including the great demigods, are His subordinates. One can attain perfect peace only in complete Krsna consciousness.

This Fifth Chapter is a practical explanation of Krsna consciousness, generally known as karma-yoga. The question of mental speculation as to how karma-yoga can give liberation is answered herewith. To work in Krsna consciousness is to work with the complete knowledge of the Lord as the predominator. Such work is not different from transcendental knowledge.
Direct Krsna consciousness is bhakti-yoga, and jnna-yoga is a path leading to bhakti-yoga. Krsna consciousness means to work in full knowledge of one’s relationship with the Supreme Absolute, and the perfection of this consciousness is full knowledge of Krsna, or the Supreme Personality of Godhead. A pure soul is the eternal servant of God as His fragmental part and parcel. He comes into contact with maya (illusion) due to the desire to lord it over maya, and that is the cause of his many sufferings.

As long as he is in contact with matter, he has to execute work in terms of material necessities. Krsna consciousness, however, brings one into spiritual life even while one is within the jurisdiction of matter, for it is an arousing of spiritual existence by practice in the material world. The more one is advanced, the more he is freed from the clutches of matter. The Lord is not partial toward anyone.
Everything depends on one’s practical performance of duties in an effort to control the senses and conquer the influence of desire and anger. And, attaining Krsna consciousness by controlling the above-mentioned passions, one remains factually in the transcendental stage, or brahma-nirvana.

The eightfold yoga mysticism is automatically practiced in Krsna consciousness because the ultimate purpose is served. Only preface perfection by devotional service, which alone can award peace to the human being. It is the highest perfection of life.

The breathing movement is restrained within the nostrils by neutralizing the up- and down-moving air within the body. By practice of such yoga one is able to gain control over the senses, refrain from outward sense objects, and thus prepare oneself for liberation in the Supreme.
This yoga process helps one become free from all kinds of fear and anger and thus feel the presence of the Supersoul in the transcendental situation. In other words, Krsna consciousness is the easiest process of executing yoga principles. A Krsna conscious person, however, being always engaged in devotional service, does not risk losing his senses to some other engagement. This is a better way of controlling the senses than by the astang-yoga.

Haridasa Thakura replied, “I know all about that, but I allowed you to come here for three days so that you could be converted and become a devotee. Now take these chanting beads, and go on chanting.
I am leaving this place.” Here is another example of a dhira who has control of his body (deha), words (vaca), and intelligence (buddhi). One’s body, words and intelligence should be controlled by one who is dh†ra and who actually knows the principles of religion.

Faith in Krsna and Spiritual master

“Unto those great souls who have implicit faith in both the Lord and the spiritual master, all the imports of Vedic knowledge are automatically revealed.” (Svetasvatara Upanisad 6.23) One must accept the pure devotee, the representative of God, as one’s guru and then offer him all the respects one would offer the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This is the secret of success. For one who adopts this method, the perfect process is revealed. In this verse, the words yair a‘jasa ratih indicate that by offering service and surrendering to the spiritual master, one is elevated to devotional service, and by performing devotional service one gradually becomes attached to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Because of this attachment to the Lord, one can understand the Lord. In other words, one can understand what the Lord’s position is, what our position is and what our relationship is. All this can be understood very easily by the simple method of bhakti-yoga. As soon as one is situated on the platform of bhakti-yoga, the root cause of one’s suffering and material bondage is destroyed. This is the secret of success. Hare Krsna

Krsna’s love for His pure devotee

Sadhavo hrdayam mahyam — sadhunam hrdayam tv aham
mad-anyat te na jananti — naham tebhyo manag api

“Saints are My heart, and only I am their hearts. They do not know anyone but Me, and therefore I do not recognize anyone besides them as Mine.”

This verse appears in Srimad-Bhagavatam in connection with a misunderstanding between Durvasa Muni and Maharaja Ambarisa. As a result of this misunderstanding, Durvasa Muni tried to kill the king, when the Sudarsana cakra, the celebrated weapon of Godhead, appeared on the scene for the devoted king’s protection. When the Sudarsana cakra attacked Durvasa Muni, he fled in fear of the weapon and sought shelter from all the great demigods in heaven.
Not one of them was able to protect him, and therefore Durvasa Muni prayed to Lord Visnu for forgiveness. Lord Visnu advised him, however, that if he wanted forgiveness he had to get it from Maharaja Ambarisa, not from Him. In this context Lord Visnu spoke this verse.

The Lord, being full and free from problems, can wholeheartedly care for His devotees. His concern is how to elevate and protect all those who have taken shelter at His feet. The same responsibility is also entrusted to the spiritual master. The bona fide spiritual master’s concern is how the devotees who have surrendered to him as a representative of the Lord may make progress in devotional service. The Supreme Personality of Godhead is always mindful of the devotees who fully engage in cultivating knowledge of Him, having taken shelter at His lotus feet.

bhavad-vidha bhagavatas — tirtha-bhutah svayam vibho
tirthi-kurvanti tirthani — svantah-sthena gada-bhrta

“Saints of your caliber are themselves places of pilgrimage. Because of their purity, they are constant companions of the Lord, and therefore they can purify even the places of pilgrimage.”

This verse was spoken by Maharaja Yudhisthira to Vidura in Srimad-Bhagavatam. Maharaja Yudhisthira was receiving his saintly uncle Vidura, who had been visiting sacred places of pilgrimage.
Maharaja Yudhisthira told Vidura that pure devotees like him are personified holy places because the Supreme Personality of Godhead is always with them in their hearts.
By their association, sinful persons are freed from sinful reactions, and therefore wherever a pure devotee goes is a sacred place of pilgrimage. The importance of holy places is due to the presence there of such pure devotees.

The Original Lord

Govinda, Krsna, is the original Personality of Godhead. Krsna as tu bhagavan svayam. Even Lord Maha-Visnu, who by His breathing creates many millions upon millions of universes, is Lord Krsna a’s kala, or plenary portion of a plenary portion. Maha-Visnu is a plenary expansion of Sankarsana, who is a plenary expansion of Narayana. Narayana is a plenary expansion of the catur-vyuha, and the catur-vyuha are plenary expansions of Baladeva, the first manifestation of Krsna. Therefore when Krsna appeared with Baladeva, all the visnu-tattvas appeared with Him.

Maharaja Pariksit requested Sukadeva Gosvami to describe Krsna and His glorious activities. Another meaning may be derived from this verse as follows, Although Sukadeva Gosvami was the greatest muni, he could describe Krsna only partially (ansena), for no one can describe Krsna fully.
It is said that Anantadeva has thousands of heads, but although He tries to describe Krsna with thousands of tongues, His descriptions are still incomplete.

It is said that all the demigods, accompanied by Tri-nayana, Lord Siva,
went to the shore of the ocean of milk and offered their prayers through the mantra known as purusa-sukta. From this statement it is understood that the demigods cannot directly approach Lord Visnu, who lies on the ocean of milk, or enter His abode. This is also clearly stated in the Mahabharata, Moksa-dharma, and the next chapter of Srimad-Bhagavatam. Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, has His abode in Goloka (goloka-namni nija-dhamni tale ca tasya). From Lord Krsna come the catur-vyuha, the quadruple expansions Sankarsana, Aniruddha, Pradyumna and Vasudeva.

There are innumerable brahman‚as, all of which emanate from the pores of Karanodakasayi Visnu, and in every brahman‚a there is a Garbhodakasayi Visnu, who is a partial expansion of Aniruddha. This Aniruddha is a partial expansion of Pradyumna, who is partially represented as Ksirodakasayi Visnu, the Supersoul of all living entities. These Visnu expansions are different from Krsna, who resides in Goloka Vrndavana. When it is said that the demigods offered prayers to the Lord by chanting the purusa-sukta, this indicates that they pleased the Lord by enunciating prayers of bhakti.

The word vrsakapi refers to one who satisfies His devotee in every way and frees His devotee from all material anxieties. Vrsa refers to religious performances like sacrifices. Even without the execution of sacrifices, the Lord can still enjoy the supermost comforts of the heavenly planets. The statement that Purusottama, Jagannatha, would appear in the house of Vasudeva distinguishes the Supreme Personality of Godhead from ordinary persons. The statement that He personally appeared indicates that He did not send His plenary expansion. The word priyartham indicates that the Lord appeared to please Rukmini and Radharani. Priya means “the most beloved.”

The Devi’s and the Devata’s

December 4th, 2009

The Devi’s and the Deva’s

The controlling deities of all physical elements are empowered expansions of Lord Visnu. They are embodied by eternal time under the external energy, and they are His parts and parcels. Because they were entrusted with different functions of universal duties and were unable to perform them, they offered fascinating prayers to the Lord as follows.

The conception of various controlling ,Devata’s who inhabit the higher planetary systems for the management of universal affairs is not imaginary, as proposed by persons with a poor fund of knowledge. The demigods are expanded parts and parcels of the Supreme Lord Visnu, and they are embodied by time, external energy and partial consciousness of the Supreme. Human beings, animals, birds, etc., are also parts and parcels of the Lord and have different material bodies, but they are not the controlling deities of material affairs. They are, rather, controlled by such demigods. Such control is not superfluous; it is as necessary as the controlling departments in the affairs of a modern state.

The devata’s should not be despised by the controlled living beings. They are all great devotees of the Lord entrusted to execute certain functions of universal affairs. One may be angry with Yamaraja for his thankless task of punishing sinful souls, but Yamaraja is one of the authorized devotees of the Lord, and so are all the other demigods.
A devotee of the Lord is never controlled by such deputed demigods, who function as assistants of the Lord, but he shows them all respects on account of the responsible positions to which they have been appointed by the Lord. At the same time, a devotee of the Lord does not foolishly mistake them to be the Supreme Lord. Actually they are all appointed as servants of Visnu.
Anyone who places the Lord and the demigods on the same level is called a pakhandi, or atheist. The demigods are worshiped by persons who are more or less adherents of the processes of jnana, yoga and karma, i.e., the impersonalists, meditators and fruitive workers. The devotees, however, worship only the Supreme Lord Visnu,Krsna. This worship is not for any material benefit, as desired by all the materialists, even up to the salvationists, mystics and fruitive workers.

Devotees worship the Supreme Lord to attain unalloyed devotion to the Lord. The Lord, however, is not worshiped by others, who have no program for attaining love of God, which is the essential aim of human life. Persons averse to a loving relationship with Krsna are more or less condemned by their own actions.
The Lord is equal to every living entity, just like the flowing Ganges. The Ganges water is meant for the purification of everyone, yet the trees on the banks of the Ganges have different values. A mango tree on the bank of the Ganges drinks the water, and the nimba tree also drinks the same water. But the fruits of both trees are different. One is celestially sweet, and the other is hellishly bitter.
The condemned bitterness of the nimba is due to its own past karma, just as the sweetness of the mango is also due to its own karma.

The Independence

December 3rd, 2009

Independence
As soon as one thinks that “I am independent,” that is another insanity. He is under control. Just like the same man. He is thinking, “I don’t care for state laws.” He is insane. He will be forced to accept state laws in the prison house by the police.
But he thinks, “Oh, I am free man.” Still… He is slapped by the police. Do you think independence? So that sort of independence we are having. We are kicked by Maya always, and we are thinking, “independent.” This is insanity. He does not think, “Why I am independent? I am servant of my senses. I cannot remain, enjoying senses, for an hour, and I am thinking I am independent.”
That means insane. He cannot think properly. Where is his independence? Cannot be independent. He is born dependent because part and parcel of God. His constitutional position is dependent.

Just like child. A child declares independence. What is the meaning of that independence? Danger. That’s all. Simply inviting dangers.
A child wants: “Oh, I don’t care for my parents. I shall cross the road. I shall go everywhere.” So if he is allowed to do that, that means he is simply inviting dangers. And if he remains under the protection of the parents,he is always safe. So this living entity’s declaring independence means he is insane, different kinds of insanity. He cannot be independent. Let him think very deeply that it cannot be independent. He is thinking independent of God, but he is dependent on his sense pleasure. That’s all. And some intoxication, a voluntarily accept dependence of something Maya. That’s all. Who is independent. Is there anyone independent? Nobody is independent. To think of independence is Maya. Best thing is that “I am dependent, and let me remain dependent in properly. Then I am protected.” That is Krsna consciousness. So your question is answered?

Material consciousness means thinking falsely independent.
That is material consciousness. Falsely. He is not independent, but he is thinking falsely, “I am independent.” This is Maya. Just like in dream he is falsely thinking there is a tiger. There is no tiger, but he is actuated by this false impression, “Oh, tiger is eating me. It has attacked me. Save me.” So this material existence means because he is insane, he is thinking there are so many problems, “The tiger is there. He is attacking me. This, that, so many enemies,friends..” creating so many things.

But they are all false. But he is attacked by that false hallucination. That’s all. This is Maya. Everyone is thinking, “Oh, there are so many problems I have to solve. I have to make this, that, this, so many.” But he has no problem. He has no problem. His only problem is how to accept Krsna. That’s all. And Krsna is so kind.He says,”Yes, you accept Me.
Simply chant Krsna. I am yours. That’s all.” But my, I am so misfortunate that I cannot chant even. All problems solved simply by chanting Krsna. Etadrsi tava krpa bhagavan.

Turn back to Lord Krsna

Coming To Krsna

How I Came To Know Krsna as the Supreme Personality Of Godhead
By Bhakta Amit Bose
CALCUTTA, 1985. It was my final year in primary school, and I was visiting my grandmother. During my stay with her she happened to call a man who buys old newspapers and magazines. I helped her take out the bundles, and as I stood watching the man weigh them and bargain with my grandmother, my glance fell on a glossy English magazine named Back to Godhead. On the cover was a picture of smiling Gopala (Krsna) with a flute in one hand and a calf tucked under the other arm.
Out of curiosity I started looking through the pages. The pictures were of a strange sight—foreigners with shaven heads and wearing Indian clothes. I wondered what it was all about. I noticed other issues of the magazine, so I picked them up from the pile and took them to my grandmother’s living room for a closer look.

The first article I read was entitled “The Final Point for the Bubble of Illusion.” The author was His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. It was an explanation of a song by Acaryaa Narottama Dasa Öhakura. The song begins hari hari! vifale janama gonainu: “O Lord, I’ve wasted my life!” I liked the article as much as my knowledge would permit, and I decided to take the magazines home with me.
Back home I read them over and over again, each reading bringing new realizations. Although born and brought up in India and therefore familiar with Krsna and some of His childhood pastimes, I didn’t know that Krsna was the Supreme Personality of Godhead and that He had appeared in the Age of Kali as the Golden Avatara, Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

I was so carried away by the magazines that I stopped drinking tea and coffee and decided to become a vegetarian. I even started chanting Hare Krsna. Becoming a vegetarian was not easy; it took me about eight months to leave meat-eating altogether. I didn’t know much about chanting, so I just chanted the Hare Krsna mantra on my fingers 108 times every night in bed, trying to experience the feeling of “going back home,” as promised to me in the articles.
In December 1986 I went with my parents to Mayapur (about three hours north of Calcutta) and stayed at the ISKCON project there.
I made friends with some of the devotees, talked with them about Krsna consciousness, and bought a copy of Bhagavad-Gita As It Is.
After that trip, I had no contact with devotees for almost four years. But I kept chanting Hare Krsna and following a vegetarian diet. In July 1990, now in college, I was aimlessly going through the campus notice board when I saw an advertisement for a student seminar in Mayapur.

I decided to get in touch with the organizers. I noted their address.
A few days later I made my way to the first floor of the “Mona Lisa” building, where I met Bhakta Sanjay (now Sahadeva Dasa) and Gauranga Dasa. As we talked about the seminar, I made up my mind to attend. But getting my parents’ permission would not be easy. This would be my first time out on my own. But after a lot of arguments, they finally allowed me to go, on the condition that I take a friend along.
Mayapur was a whole new world, a world I could easily identify with. When I returned to Calcutta, I became a member of the Calcutta temple’s youth group, Bhaktivedanta Youth Services.
Gauranga Dasa later told me that although the devotees had put up hundreds of advertisements all over Calcutta, I was the only new person who responded. Everyone else on the trip was already a BYS member.
When I look back I thank Krsna and Prabhupada for sending me those Back to Godheads. Because of those magazines, my life is a thousand times better.
Bhakta Amit recently completed the preacher training course offered by the Vaisnava Institute for Higher Education (VIHE) in vrndavan. He is helping spread Krsna consciousness in Calcutta.

Hare Krsna Bron:Iskcon books

Consciousness

This Fifth Chapter of Bhagavad– Gita is a practical explanation of Krsna consciousness, generally known as karma-yoga. The question of mental speculation as to how karma-yoga can give liberation is answered herewith. To work in Krsna consciousness is to work with the complete knowledge of the Lord as the predominator. Such work is not different from transcendental knowledge. Direct Krsna consciousness is bhakti-yoga, and jnana-yoga is a path leading to bhakti-yoga.

The highest form of Krsna consciousness or Bhakti Yoga is to concentrate one’s mind twenty-four hours a day on the lotus feet of the supreme Lord Sri Krsna.

Samadhi Or Concentration Of The Mind

bhaktyavensya mano yasmin — vaca yan-nama kirtayan
tyajan kalevarah yogi — ucyate kama-karmabhih

The Personality of Godhead, who appears in the mind of the devotee by attentive devotion and meditation and by chanting of the holy name, releases the devotee from the bondage of fruitive activities at the time of his quitting the material body.

Yoga means concentration of the mind detached from all other subject matter. And actually such concentration is samadhi, or cent percent engagement in the service of the Lord. And one who concentrates his attention in that manner is called a yogi. Such a yogi devotee of the Lord engages himself twenty-four hours daily in the service of the Lord Sri Krsna so that his whole attention is engrossed with the thoughts of the Lord in ninefold devotional service,
namely hearing, chanting, remembering, worshiping, praying, becoming a voluntary servant, carrying out orders, establishing a friendly relationship, or offering all that one may possess, in the service of the Lord.

By such practice of yoga, or linking up in the service of the Lord, one is recognized by the Lord Himself, as it is explained in the Bhagavad-gita concerning the highest perfectional stage of samadhi. The Lord calls such a rare devotee the best amongst all the yogis, Bg.6.47.
Such a perfect yogi is enabled by the divine grace of the Lord to concentrate his mind upon the Lord with a perfect sense of consciousness, and thus by chanting His holy name before quitting the body the yogi is at once transferred by the internal energy of the Lord to one of the eternal planets where there is no question of material life and its concomitant factors. In material existence a living being has to endure the material conditions of threefold miseries, life after life, according to his fruitive work.

Such material life is produced by material desires only. Devotional service to the Lord does not kill the natural desires of the living being, but they are applied in the right cause of devotional service. This qualifies the desire to be transferred to the spiritual sky. General Bhismadeva is referring to a particular type of yoga called bhakti-yoga, and he was fortunate enough to have the Lord directly in his presence before he quitted his material body.

Gita Mahatmyam

November 28th, 2009

Lord Sri Krsna zegt:
abhyasa-yoga-yuktena — Cetasa nanya-gamina
paramam purusam divyam — yati parthanucintayan
‘Wie op Mij mediteert als de Allerhoogste Persoonlijkheid Gods, Krsna en zonder van het pad af te dwalen voortdurend aan Me denkt, zal Me zeker bereiken, O Partha.’ (Bg. 8.8)

mam hi partha vyapassritya — ye ‘pi syuh papa-yonayah
striyo vaisyas tatha sudras — te ‘pi yanti param gatim
kim punar brahmanah punya — bhakta rajarsayas tatha
anityam asukham lokam — imam prapya bhajasva mam

sarva-dharman parityajya — mam ekam sranam vraja
mala-nirmocanam pumsam — jala-snanam dine dine
sakrd gitamrta-snanam — samsara-mala-nasanam
‘Iemand mag zich dan dagelijks wassen door een bad te nemen in water, maar als hij slechts een keer een bad neemt in het heilige Gangeswater van de Bhagavad-gita, dan zal voor hem al het vuil van het materiele leven volledig weggevaagd zijn.’

(Gita-mahatmya 3)
gita su-gita kartavya — kim anyaih sastra-vistaraih

sarvopanisado gavo — dogdha gopala-nandanah
partha vatsah su-dhir bhokta — dugdham gitamrtam mahat
‘Deze Gitopanisad, de Bhagavad-gita, de essentie van alle upanisads, is net als een koe en Heer Krsna , die bekendstaat als een koeherdersjongen, melkt deze koe. Arjuna is net als een kalf en wijze geleerden en zuivere toegewijden moeten deze nectarmelk van de Bhagavad-gita drinken.’

(Gita-mahatmya 6)
ekam sastram devaki-putra-gitam — eko devo devaki-putra eva
eko mantras tasya namani yani — karmapy ekah tasya devasya seva

(Gita-mahatmya 7)
Hare Krsna , Hare Krsna , Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare —
Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare.
Karmapy ekam tasya devasya seva:
laat er maar een activiteit zijn—dienst aan de Allerhoogste Persoonlijkheid Gods Krsna.

Chanting and dancing

Chanting and Dancing
November 25th, 2009
Faith in the words of the spiritual master and in the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the secret of success. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu never disobeyed the orders of His spiritual master and stopped propagating the sankirtana movement. Sri Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Gosvami, at the time of his passing away, ordered all his disciples to work conjointly to preach the mission of Caitanya Mahaprabhu all over the world.
It is to be understood that when Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu chanted and danced, He did so by the influence of the pleasure potency of the spiritual world. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu never considered the holy name of the Lord to be a material vibration, nor does any pure devotee mistake the chanting of the Hare Krsna mantra to be a material musical manifestation. Lord Caitanya never tried to be the master of the holy name; rather He taught us how to be servants of the holy name.
If one chants the holy name of the Lord just to make a show, not knowing the secret of success, he may increase his bile secretion, but he will never attain perfection in chanting the holy name. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu presented himself in this way: “I am a great fool and do not have knowledge of right and wrong. I firmly believe that simply chanting the holy name of the Lord can remove all misconceptions of the material world. I believe that simply by chanting the holy name of the Lord one can attain the shelter of the lotus feet of the Lord.
In this age of quarrel and disagreement, the chanting of the holy names is the only way to liberation from the material clutches.
“By chanting the holy name,” Lord Caitanya continued, “I became almost mad. However, after inquiring from My spiritual master I have come to the conclusion that instead of striving for achievement in the four principles of religiosity [dharma], economic development [artha], sense gratification [kama] and liberation [moksa], it is better if somehow or other one develops transcendental love of Godhead.
That is the greatest success in life. One who has attained love of Godhead chants and dances by his nature, not caring for the public.” This stage of life is known as Bhagavata-jivana, or the life of a devotee.
Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu continued, “I never chanted and danced to make an artificial show. I dance and chant because I firmly believe in the words of My spiritual master. Therefore it is to be concluded that I deserve very little credit for these activities of chanting and dancing, for they are being done automatically by the grace of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.”

The perfection of Devotion

November 24th, 2009

The perfection of Devotion

A person should act in such a way that the Lord is satisfied by the
activity; it is not that he himself is to be satisfied. Of course, when the Lord is satisfied, the devotee automatically becomes satisfied.
This is the secret of the process of bhakti-yoga. Outside of bhakti-yoga, everyone is trying to satisfy himself. No one is trying to satisfy the Lord. Karmi’s grossly try to satisfy their senses, but even those who are elevated to the platform of knowledge also try to satisfy themselves, in a subtle form.
Karmi’s try to satisfy themselves by sense gratification, and jnani’s try to satisfy themselves by subtle activities or mental speculation and thinking themselves to be God. Yogi’s also try to satisfy themselves, by thinking that they can achieve different mystic perfections. But only devotees try to satisfy the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
The devotees’ process of self-realization is completely different from the processes of the karmi’s, jnani’s and yogi’s. Everyone else is trying to satisfy himself, whereas the devotee tries only to satisfy the Lord.
The devotional process is completely different from the others; by working to please the Lord by engaging his senses in the Lord’s loving service, the devotee is immediately situated on the transcendental platform, and he enjoys unlimited blissful life.

The six Goswamis:

1 Sri Jiva Goswami and
2. Sri Rupa Goswami,
3. Sri Sanatan Goswami

4. Sri Gopal Bhatta Goswami
5. Sri Raghunath Bhatta Goswami,
6. Sri Raghunath Das Goswami,

Who are always engaged in chanting the Holy Name of krsna, hare krsna hare krsna, krsna krsna hare hare, hare rama hare rama, rama rama hare hare, and dancing. They are just like the Ocean of Love for God, and as such they are popular both with the gentle and with the ruffians, because they are not envious of anyone; and whatever they do, they are all-pleasing to everyone. As such, they are respectful to all, because they are fully blest by Lord Chaitanya. Thus they are engaged in missionary activities meant to deliver all the conditioned souls in the material universe.

Return To Real Life

Srila Prabhupada: We are simply attempting to bring people to the real understanding.
Krsna says, mamaivamso jiva-bhutah: [15.7] all living entities are part and parcel of Me. He says, sarva-yonisu kaunteya [Bg. 14.4].. aham bija-pradah: “Of all forms of life, I am the seed-giving father.” In other words, the natural position is that every living entity — animals, plants, and human beings, including Indians, Americans, Czechs — everyone is part and parcel of Krsna.
This movement is not some kind of rubber-stamp proselytizing — “You were Christian; now you are Hindu.” After all, if one does not know what his position is, what benefit will he derive by simply being stamped “Hindu”?
He’ll still be in ignorance of his real, spiritual identity.
If you keep someone on the ignorant platform, then what is the benefit of making a Christian or a into a Hindu? No, artificially changing someone into a Hindu will not help. One must know the philosophy of life. One must know what God is. One must learn how to love God.
That is real life.

Krsna consciousness*

November 19th, 2009

Krsna consciousness

This Fifth Chapter of Bhagavada Gita is a practical explanation of Krsna consciousness, generally known as karma-yoga.
Krsna consciousness means to work in full knowledge of one’s relationship with the Supreme Absolute, and the perfection of this consciousness is full knowledge of Krsna , or the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

The Perfect Libaration

November 16th, 2009

The liberation from passion and contamination.

The yogi whose mind is fixed on Me verily attains the highest happiness.
By virtue of his identity with Brahman, he is liberated; his mind is peaceful, his passions are quieted, and he is freed from sin.

Brahma-bhuta is the state of being free from material contamination and situated in the transcendental service of the Lord. Mad-bhakti labhate param (Bg. 18.54).
One cannot remain in the quality of Brahman, the Absolute, until one’s mind is fixed on the lotus feet of the Lord. Sa vai mana„ krsna-padaravindayo„. To be always engaged in the transcendental loving service of the Lord, or to remain in Krsna consciousness, is to be factually liberated from the mode of passion and all material contamination.

Acintya-Bhedabheda Tattva

November 16th, 2009

Acintya-bhedabheda Tattva.

Because everything manifested is creation of the original transcendental Sound, therefore, factually everything is spiritual.
But being covered by material cloud, we do not appreciate properly the spiritual nature of everything. The Krsna Consciousness Movement means gradually advancing towards that stage of spiritual realization. As such, the philosophy of acintya bhedabheda tattva is perfect.

Everything is simultaneously one and different from the Supreme.
One in quality because the original source is the Spiritual Whole, and different in quantity. This quantitative difference becomes more and more separate by increase of material consciousness.
Even Sri Krsna cannot compel one for co-operation because every living being is given full chance of utilizing independent views. The human form of life although temporary it has a great value for utilizing for the service of the Supreme. The Supreme is everything but everything is not the Supreme.

The stomach can digest foodstuff for all the sense organs but all the parts of the body is not the stomach. This philosophy of acintya bhedabheda tattva was preached by Lord Caitanya for world welare. It is our duty to help its practical preaching by all efforts. Nobody is competent to interpret on the Sastras by one’s whim. It is science it has to be learnt from the proper sources. Sri Krsna is not a man in flesh and blood and His Lila was not meant for interpretation by any mundane scholar. There is way to learn it and unless we have it our energy will be spoiled only by attending any layman’s hypocrisy.
I hope you will think over this in your leisure hours and oblige.

stages of spiritual advancement

According to the Vedic principles, there are three stages of spiritual advancement, namely, sambandha-jnana, abhidheya and prayojana. Sambandha-jnana refers to establishing one’s original relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, abhidheya refers to acting according to that constitutional relationship, and prayojana is the ultimate goal of life, which is to develop love of Godhead (prema pum-artho mahan). If one adheres to the regulative principles under the order of the spiritual master, he very easily achieves the ultimate goal of his life. A person who is addicted to the chanting of the Hare Krsna mantra very easily gets the opportunity to serve the Supreme Personality of Godhead directly. There is no need for a person to understand the grammatical jugglery. Sri Sankaracarya also stressed this point: na hi na hi rakshati. “Simply by juggling grammatical suffixes and prefixes one cannot save himself from the clutches of death.” The grammatical word jugglers cannot bewilder a devotee who engages in chanting the Hare Krsna maha-mantra. Simply addressing the energy of the Supreme Lord as Hare and the Lord Himself as Krsna very soon situates the Lord within the heart of the devotee. By thus addressing Radha and Krsna , one directly engages in His Lordship’s service. The essence of all revealed scriptures and all knowledge is present when one addresses the Lord and His energy by the Hare Krsna mantra, for this transcendental vibration can completely liberate a conditioned soul and directly engage him in the service of the Lord.
Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu presented Himself as a grand fool, yet He maintained that all the words that He had heard from His spiritual master strictly followed the principles stated by Vyasadeva in Srimad-Bhagavatam (1.7.6).
anarthopasama‰ saksad — bhakti-yogam adhoksaje
lokasyajanato vidvad — cakre satvata-sashitam

“The material miseries of a living entity, which are superfluous to him, can be directly mitigated by the linking process of devotional service. But the mass of people do not know this, and therefore the learned Vyasadeva compiled this Vedic scripture [Srimad-Bhagavatam], which is in relation to the Supreme Truth.” One can overcome all misconceptions and entanglement in the material world by practicing bhakti-yoga, and therefore Vyasadeva, acting on the instruction of Sri Narada, has very kindly introduced Srimad-Bhagavatam to relieve the conditioned souls from the clutches of maya. Lord Caitanya’s spiritual master instructed Him, therefore, that one must read Srimad-Bhagavatam regularly and with scrutiny to gradually become attached to the chanting of the Hare Krsna maha-mantra.

sei sarva-vedera ‘abhidheya’ nama–sadhana-bhakti haite haya premera udgama
“By practicing this regulated devotional service under the direction of the spiritual master, certainly one awakens his dormant love of Godhead. This process is called abhidheya.

THE AVATARA

November 14th, 2009

The Avataras

Lord Caitanya continued to explain to Sanatana Gosvami that the expansions of Lord Krsna who come to the material creation are called avataras, or incarnations. The word avatara means “One who descends,” and in this case the word specifically refers to one who descends from the spiritual sky. In the spiritual sky there are innumerable Vaikuntha planets, and from these planets the expansions of the Supreme Personality of Godhead come into this universe.
The first descent of the Supreme Personality of Godhead from the expansion of Sankarsan is the purusa incarnation, Mahavisnu. It is confirmed in Srimad-Bhagavatam (1.3.1) that when the Supreme Personality of Godhead descends as the first purusa incarnation of the material creation, He immediately manifests sixteen elementary energies. Known as the Mahahavisnu, He lies within the Causal Ocean, and it is He who is the original incarnation in the material world. He is the Lord of time, nature, cause and effect, mind, ego, the five elements, the three modes of nature, the senses and the universal form. Although He is master of all objects movable and immovable in the material world, He is totally independent.
The influence of material nature cannot reach beyond the Viraja, or Causal Ocean, as confirmed in Srimad-Bhagavatam (2.9.10). The modes of material nature (goodness, passion and ignorance), as well as material time, have no influence on the Vaikuntha planets. On those planets the liberated associates of Krsna live eternally, and they are worshiped both by the demigods and the demons.
Material nature acts in two capacities as maya and pradhana. Maya is the direct cause, and pradhana refers to the elements of the material manifestation. When the first purusa-avatara, Mahavisnu, glances over the material nature, material nature becomes agitated, and the purusa-avatara thus impregnates matter with living entities. Simply by the glance of the Maha-Visnu, consciousness is created, and this consciousness is known as mahat-tattva, The predominating Deity of the mahat-tattva is Vasudeva. This created consciousness is then divided into three departmental activities according to the three Guna’s, or modes of material nature. Consciousness in the mode of goodness is described in the Eleventh Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam. The predominating Deity of the mode of goodness is called Aniruddha. Consciousness in the mode of material passion produces intelligence, and the predominating Deity in this case is Pradyumna. He is the master of the senses. Consciousness in the mode of ignorance causes the production of ether, the sky and the sense of hearing. The cosmic manifestation is a combination of all these modes, and in this way innumerable universes are created. No one can count the number of universes.
These innumerable universes are produced from the pores of the Maha-Visnu’s body. As innumerable particles of dust pass through the tiny holes in a screen, similarly from the pores of the Maha-Visnu’s body innumerable universes emanate. As He breathes out, innumerable universes are produced, and as He inhales, they are annihilated. All of the energies of the Maha-Visnu are spiritual, and they have nothing to do with the material energy. In Brahma-samhita (5.48) it is stated that the predominating deity of each universe, Brahma, lives only during one breath of the Maha-Visnu. Thus Maha-Visnu is the original Supersoul of all the universes and the master of all universes as well.
The second Visnu incarnation, the Garbhodakasayi Visnu, enters each and every universe, spreads water from His body, and lies down on that water. From His navel, the stem of a lotus flower grows, and on that lotus flower the first creature, Brahma, is born. Within the stem of that lotus flower are fourteen divisions of planetary systems, which are created by Brahma. Within each universe the Lord is present as the Garbhodakasayi Visnu, and He maintains each universe and tends to its needs. Although He is within each material universe, the influence of material energy cannot touch Him. When it is required, this very same Visnu takes the form of Lord Shiva and annihilates the cosmic creation. The three secondary incarnations–Brahma, Visnu and Siva–are the predominating deities of the three modes of material nature.

The Secret of Success

November 14th, 2009

Since Maharaja Yudhisthira was under the protection of the ajita, the infallible Lord, the properties of the Lord, namely the rivers, oceans, hills, forests, etc., were all pleased, and they used to supply their respective quota of taxes to the King. The secret to success is to take refuge under the protection of the Supreme Lord. Without His sanction, nothing can be possible. To make economic development by our own endeavors on the strength of tools and machinery is not all. The sanction of the Supreme Lord must be there, otherwise despite all instrumental arrangements everything will be unsuccessful. The ultimate cause of success is the daiva, the Supreme.

The Secrets Of Life

November 13th, 2009

Why Bhakti Yoga

Whatever the case–serpents, tigers, or lions–one can be truly fearless only when he is established in Krsna consciousness. Due to perverted memory, the conditioned soul is naturally fearful. Fear is due to forgetting one’s eternal relationship with Krsna. According to Srimad Bhagavatam (11.2.37): Krsna consciousness provides the only true basis for fearlessness; therefore perfect practice of yoga is not possible for one who is not Krsnaconscious.
The yogi must also be “completely free from sex life.” If one indulges in sex, he cannot concentrate; therefore brahmacarya, complete celibacy, is recommended to make the mind steady. By practicing celibacy, one cultivates determination. One modern example of such determination is that of Mahatma Gandhi, who was determined to resist the powerful British empire by means of nonviolence. Therefore Gandhi resorted to nonviolence, noncooperation. “I shall not fight with the Britishers,” he declared, “and even if they react with violence, I shall remain nonviolent. In this way the world will sympathize with us.” Such a policy required a great amount of determination, and Gandhi’s determination was very strong because he was a brahmacari. Although he had children and a wife, he renounced sex at the age of thirty-six. It was this sexual renunciation that enabled him to be so determined that he was able to lead his country and drive the British from India.
Thus, refraining from sex enables one to be very determined and powerful. It is not necessary to do anything else. This is a secret people are not aware of. If you want to do something with determination, you have to refrain from sex. Regardless of the process–be it hatha-yoga, bhakti-yoga, jnana-yoga, or whatever–sex indulgence is not allowed. Sex is allowed only for householders who want to beget good children and raise them in Krsna consciousness. Sex is not meant for sense enjoyment, although enjoyment is there by nature. Unless there is some enjoyment, why should one assume the responsibility of begetting children? That is the secret of nature’s gift, but we should not take advantage of it. These are the secrets of life. By taking advantage and indulging in sex life, we are simply wasting our time. If one tells you that you can indulge in sex as much as you like and at the same time become a yogi, he is cheating you. If we want something valuable, we must pay for it. We cannot expect to walk into a jewelry store and demand the most valuable jewel for a mere ten cents. No, we must pay a great deal. Similarly, if we want perfection in yoga, we have to pay by abstaining from sex. Perfection in yoga is not something childish, and Bhagavad-Gita instructs us that if we try to make yoga into something childish, we will be cheated. But according to Krsna’s authoritative statement in Bhagavad-Gita, one must be “completely free from sex life.” Being free from sex, one should “meditate upon Me within the heart and make Me the ultimate goal of life.” This is real meditation.
Krsna does not recommend meditation on the void. He specifically states, “meditate upon Me.” The Visnu-Murti is situated in one’s heart, and meditation upon Him is the object of yoga. This is the Sankhya -yoga system, as first practiced by Lord Kapiladeva, an incarnation of God. By sitting straight, staring steadily at the tip of one’s nose, subduing one’s mind, and abstaining from sex, one may be able to concentrate the mind on the Visnu-Murti situated within the heart. When we refer to the Visnu form, or Visnu-Murti, we refer to Krsna.

Lord Siva a Great Vaisnava

November 13th, 2009

Then Lord Caitanya, adopting the mood of Lord Siva, got on the man’s shoulders, and thus they danced together for a long time.

Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu adopted the mood of Lord Siva, for He is Siva also. According to the philosophy of acintya-bhedabheda-tattva, Lord Siva is not different from Lord ViSnu, but still Lord Siva is not Lord Visnu, just as yogurt is nothing but milk and yet is not milk nevertheless. One cannot get the benefit of milk by drinking yogurt.

Similarly, one cannot get salvation by worshiping Lord Siva. If one wants salvation, one must worship Lord Visnu. This is confirmed in the Bhagavad-Gita 9.4: mat-sthani sarva-bhutani na caham tesv avasthitah. Everything is resting on the Lord, for everything is His potential energy, yet He is not everywhere. Lord Caitanya’s adopting the mood of Lord Siva is not extraordinary, but one should not therefore think that by worshiping Lord Siva one is worshiping Lord Caitanya. That would be a mistake.
Vaisnavanama Yatha Vaisnava Shambhu-asti Lord Siva is a great Vaisnava.

Bhagavan Se Apna Sambandha

November 13th, 2009

Sambandha Jnana
Knowledge of one’s relationship with the supreme Lord

“Unto those great souls who have implicit faith in both the Lord and the spiritual master, all the imports of Vedic knowledge are automatically revealed.” svetasvatara Upanisad 6.23) One must accept the pure devotee, the representative of God, as one’s guru and then offer him all the respects one would offer the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
This is the secret of success.
For one who adopts this method, the perfect process is revealed. In this verse, the words yair a‘jasa rati„ indicate that by offering service and surrendering to the spiritual master, one is elevated to devotional service, and by performing devotional service one gradually becomes attached to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This is clearly explained in the next verse, which gives the secret of success.

As the Lord says in Bhagavad-Gita 4.11:

ye yatha mam prapadyante, tans tathaiva bhajamy aham
mama vartmanuvartante, manusya partha sarvasa.

“As men surrender unto Me, I reward them accordingly. Everyone follows My path in all respects, O son of Patha.” One may be a karmi, j‘nani, a yogi and then a bhakta or prema-bhakta. But the ultimate stage of realization is prema-bhakti, as actually demonstrated by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
No any other positions will help you to become a pure devotee of the supreme Lord Sri Krsna.
So, the secret of success is that one should be eager to serve the Spiritual Master and Krsna simultaneously with the same regard and things will become automatically revealed in the heart of the devotee.
A spiritul master comes down from Guru the Parampara As the Lord says in Bhagavad-Gita
“evam parampara praptam imam rajarsayo viduh” Bg.4.2

The basic principle of our actions should be that they are all meant for pleasing Krsna in stead of our senses. If we act always in this consciousness automatically everyone will be attracted to devotional service, and this is the secret of our preaching work. If you simply practice the regulative principles which I have introduced you will remain pure. Factually this is our only strength.

Preaching:
secret of preaching work is that one must keep himself fit in spiritual strength by maintaining always the highest standard of purity in Krsna consciousness. We should always pray to Lord Caitanya simply to be engaged in His confidential service by chanting Hare Krsna mantra ” Hare Krsna hare krsna, krsna krsna hare hare, hare rama hare rama, rama rama hare hare” always.
That will purify us and give the strength needed to infuse others with Krsna consciousness.
